The Simple Things….
We are in deepest, darkest winter at 55°N and it can be hard to find ways to stay motivated when the weather is biting and spring is still a fair way off.
What do you do to keep motivated?
Are you a Winter Wonderlander? The colder the better. Wild swimming and dipping in ice baths? Brisk walks in The Wild and travelling to even colder climates for sports and mountain peaks?
Are you a Hibernater? A grizzly bear that only surfaces for hot chocolate and one pot stews. Comfort food whilst snuggling in your favourite blanket and wearing fingerless gloves in the house. Emerging when the clocks spring forward, rubbing your eyes at the sunshine.
Whichever way it is you find to cope with dark days, let it be the one that suits you best. The one that makes you smile. If you want to go skiing and snow angel making, do it! If you want to be wrapped in six layers of clothing with only your nose identifying you as human, do it!
I’m a mix of both Grizzy Bear and Wild Walker. I definitely need to keep my batteries charged from November to February by doing the little things that keep my brain happy.
Sunglasses on those dazzling bright, freezing days where the sun bounces off and singes the backs of your retinas.
Thick wooly sweaters, loads of massive scarves and gloves, as I charge along the beach, walking fast to keep walm and
avoiding the loony Wonderlanders and their sea dipping (not a chance mate!)
Snuggly blankets on my sofas (for guests need snuggle blankets too) and twinkly lights on everything! My stairs have lights, my plants have lights. Salt lamps giving a cosy glow in every room. Well, we need it when the sun’s setting at 4pm!
Dreaming of that brilliant weekend in June where we all look at the sky and wonder if it’s ever going to get dark!
Indulge yourself in what you love most to keep you happy and count down to 30th March.
