I’ve been to a great networking event today where we were mostly discussing social media (love it or loathe it, it’s part of the gig!) and considering what things within our businesses attract our customers.
So we got on to the subject of The Environment. (Stop rolling your eyes, you at the back!!)
What would make you attracted to a small business? For me, being environmentally aware (if not entirely greeeeeeen) is really important. I don’t buy fast fashion, for example. And I get my home electricity from a company that uses solar and wind sourced energy, and that plants a tree to build forests as a way to offset, for every new customer. I recycle everything that it’s possible to recycle.
At WOW! Women Only Wellness Ltd, we are all about self-care. And in that subject of self-care, it’s important to think of the place we live – Planet Earth.
Caring for the planet because we have to breath is a big thing. And while most of us who attend WOW aren’t world leaders (watch this space though!) we can still play a large part, personally, on making where we live a lovely place by not turning it into a shit tip by our consumption.
We are big advocates of Keeping It Simple! We have an lovely, low impact venue at Century Circle. There is no electrical hook up on the main field, and we ask you to bring your own cutlery and crockery to save on unnecessary waste. We also ask you to take any of your own recyclable waste away with you to save on the farmer paying by volume.
We introduced a Clothes Swish in 2024 that was magnificent and we will be building on that for 2025. Donating the clothes, shoes and accessories you no longer want, for others to love anew was one of our best ideas! Not only does it repurpose those items, but it saves on landfill and helped with supporting TRAC UK (https://tracuk.uk/) and Be Kind. No Excuses CIC (www.riepearson.com) the beneficiaries of WOW! It also clears up wardrobe space for your new purchases!
Our motto is “Think Global. Act Local”. Do what you CAN and don’t stress about what you can’t.
